Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is commonly defined as intelligence exhibited by an artifical entity through behaviour, learning, and adaptation. There are many areas of artificial intelligence study, including strong AI and weak AI, but the main discussion is centered around whether true consciousness can be created using formal logic systems. Applied to technology, artificial intelligence allows for the automation of tasks to improve efficiency, reduce risk of injury to humans, and perform work that people find degrading or repetitive. More and more practical applications are being developed as newer technologies emerge.
Intelligent technology will eventually allow us to reproduce practically every aspect of our lives, maybe even our own consciousness. But, as shown in many depictions of artificial intelligence in fiction, it may not be such a good idea to strive for a truly conscious artificial being.
